In the rapidly evolving landscape of human resources, HiBob is positioning itself as a leader by transitioning to an AI-first experience. In a recent conversation with Omer Reemy, Vice President of Payroll Technology at HiBob, Reemy detailed how the company is helping customers to become AI-First, by moving beyond simple “AI seasoning” to weave artificial intelligence into the core of the HiBob HR platform.

The HiBob Philosophy: From “AI Seasoning” to AI-First

Even before Generative AI appeared, HiBob’s approach to AI was what Reemy calls “AI seasoning”: using AI tools to enhance existing tasks, such as helping an employee write a company shout-out or predicting employee turnover. Today, that strategy has evolved into a foundational mindset for the HiBob team.

“Every feature that you put on your roadmap: why not solve it with AI? So let’s try to flip our approach. Not what can we solve with AI, but why can’t AI solve this problem? If you adopt this type of mindset, you find yourselves more and more leaning toward AI-first solutions.” — Omer Reemy

At HiBob, an “AI Mind” team is dedicated to building internal tools and bots that connect disparate data flows, increasing internal efficiency while cascading those in-house validated capabilities down to the user experience.

AI in the HRIS: “Everyone Deserves an Agent”

HiBob’s vision for the HRIS (Human Resources Information System) is built on the belief that every function within a company—from Payroll to recruiters to Learning and Development managers, to FP&A —should have a dedicated co-pilot. Then, over time, building upon those capabilities in a few ways:

  • Upskilling the Agent: HiBob is moving toward a “delegation and trust” model where AI takes on more complex, senior-level tasks.
  • Building The Manager Co-Pilot: A significant focus for 2026 is empowering people managers to use AI-first tools to manage their teams more effectively.
  • Tracking Adoption: HiBob tracks AI adoption as a primary KPI, ensuring that their “intelligence layer” provides tangible value across their entire customer base.

“We are teaching the AI to take on more complex tasks over time. Instead of polishing the job description, for example, why not have AI build the entire assessment process for a role, based on defined skills and competencies?” — Omer Reemy

Reimagining Payroll: Solving for Employees and Employers

As Omer says, in a thousand-person company, “there is one person who understands payroll and 999 employees who are impacted by it but don’t understand it.” HiBob is using AI to bridge this gap, specifically through their Payroll Agent.

HiBob focuses on a payroll analyst role for their AI agent today – not an agent modeled after a more senior payroll team member that’s empowered to change anything related to payroll on behalf of an employee. Some examples:

1. Automated Variance Reporting

Traditional payroll systems require manual checks to find changes between pay cycles. HiBob’s AI-first approach removes the need for traditional “variance reports.”

“AI will do the analysis even better than a human because of the amount of data to review. What changed in this pay cycle compared to the previous cycle? We don’t need to write a dedicated piece of code to push that insight back to the user.” — Omer Reemy

2. The Payslip Co-Pilot

To reduce the burden on payroll admins, HiBob developed an AI agent that can explain a payslip directly to an employee. By feeding the model the context of the payroll engine (e.g., changes in address, salary, or marital status), the AI can answer the “Why?” behind a paycheck change.

“The natural thing to do would be to go to my payroll admin and ask, ‘Hey, on my last payslip I noticed my take-home pay changed. What happened?’ Most of the time it’s just user education. It turns out the AI agent can answer this question accurately and quickly, involving the payroll admin only when necessary.” — Omer Reemy
